Belize currency

Belize’s official currency is the Belize dollar. One U.S. dollar is worth two Belize dollars. The Belize dollar is fixed to the U.S. dollar so this rate of exchange does not fluctuate.

The U.S. dollar is accepted everywhere is Belize and should be exchanged directly in purchasing goods and services, as banks will charge a fee to exchange U.S. to Belize dollars. Banknotes larger than $20US aren't easily accepted.

Nearly all hotels, restaurants and shops in the major towns and tourist areas take all major credit cards.

The smallest unit of Belizean currency is the cent (or penny) and 100 cents is equal to 1 dollar (100¢BZ = $1BZ). Coins are available in 1¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢ & $1 denominations, while paper notes come in $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 & $100 denominations
